PhotoNews adds new webportal

December 14, 2011 - Over the last year, more and more visitors have surfed the PhotoNews website with mobile devices such as iPads, iphones and Android based smartphones.  In 2010, just 10% of our site traffic came from mobile devices. Today, that number is 13% and rising quickly with the fall in phone prices and more affordable data plans from cellular providers.
Smartphone users see, as in the example on the right, a scaled down version of our homepage with links to the latest stories and photos. The concise version design takes up a much lower amount of bandwidth helping to regular visitors keep their data usage down when checking to see what new content has been updated to the site.

Sample view of new webportalPhotoNews smartphone visitors can go to http://www.iphotonews.com/mobile and bookmark the page in their favorite mobile browser.

When the page loads in iPhone and android based operating systems at typical default settings, the user will see a full page view of the PhotoNews latest stories as well as the new photos added to our extensive online photo gallery. Users then double tap any of the plain text to enlarge the list to fit their smartphone display.

Starting early January, there are plans to add two additional sections that include a list of featured galleries and a profile section on area athletes who are playing at the top of their game, making a contribution to their community or deserving of recognition for their academic achievements.
