November 18, 2013 - Washington, IL - It was a typical Sunday afternoon in Washington, IL, for resident Wendy Custis. Just days earlier she welcomed a new grandchild to the family and was waiting for her husband Tim, to come home from the church they attended but drove to separately.
About 15 minutes after he arrived home and changed out of his dressed clothes, phone messages alerted the couple that there was tornado warning for Tazwell County. Tim went to get an update from the television in the basement while Wendy waited upstairs near the front door for an 83 year-old friend who had called earlier planning to drop off a few things at their house.
